Yes โ here's exactly how life jackets, crew support, and calmer checkpoints make snorkeling manageable even if you can't swim.
You don't need to know how to swim to snorkel at Redang. Every guest wears a life jacket for the entire time they're in the water, which keeps you afloat without any swimming effort on your part. Most first-timers and non-swimmers who join our trips do fine once they get used to the mask and breathing through the snorkel.
Honestly, it's rarely the swimming โ it's breathing through a snorkel for the first time. Water occasionally gets into the tube, or the mask fogs up, and that can feel alarming for a few seconds even to confident swimmers. Our crew talks new guests through mask and snorkel basics before the first stop, and it's worth practising breathing through the snorkel while still on the boat, before you're in open water.
Snorkeling involves being in open water with some boat travel between stops. If you have a serious fear of open water, a medical condition that affects breathing or consciousness, or you're not comfortable wearing a life jacket for an extended period, it's worth messaging our team before booking so we can talk through whether the trip suits you.
The same applies to children โ life jackets are sized for guests of different ages, and our crew keeps a closer eye on younger or first-time snorkelers. See our separate guide on family trips for more on bringing kids specifically.
